Granada, Nicaragua...

I have not done cultural travel for a few years and boy am I living a dream return to that type of travel I love!  There are 5 colonial cities in Central America and I have now visited 2 of them.  Granada is picturesque and magical!  I must return and spend more time in Nicaragua.

Motorcycles, motorcycles and more motorcycles

I've never seen anything like the army of motorcycles in the little town of Samara.  The roads are full of potholes, so all the motorcycles are crossovers between streetbikes and dirtbikes.  There is a helmet law, but most people who do wear helmets & don't fasten the straps.   It is also a law that you must wear a florescent crossing-guard-like vest or straps.  It is normal to see a family of 4 on a bike with the dad in front, mom on back and a couple of babies in the middle.  Police officers ride bikes, 2 on each bike.  People park their bikes inside the grocery store at night some of the businesses around town look like they are having a bike rally because there are so many bike parked outside. Yesterday I saw a family of 3 with a dog and a guitar cruising on a bike. :) I've seen a black lab on scooter with his tail sticking out on one side and his head on the other.  Scooters also sometimes come equipped with bicycle racks and surfboard racks on the sides. :)
